Work on it Wednesday: Let's form a new habit

Okay so I'm a little late on the "Work on it Wednesday" post because it is Thursday but hey, these blogs are inconsistent and I'm okay with that.

So Work on it Wednesday is what I've called in the past Let's Try to Form a New Habit.  Well, I have been trying to form a new habit of reading more and I've been doing pretty well.  I have been trying to read at least one chapter every night.  Well, last night I may have fallen asleep before I got through a whole chapter but I tried.

I've been reading two books right now.

and

The first book I bought years ago and never read it.  It has probably been sitting next to my bed for two years for now.  It's a little slow getting into it but hey, I'm reading it.  I think I'm finally getting to the part where it picks up.  We'll see how long it takes before I get done and if it really picks up.

The second book I borrowed from a good friend's mother (Thanks Mrs. House!).  I guess this is a whole series and this is the first in the series.  I hope I have the order right otherwise the other books she let me borrow will be a bit confusing.  Haha!  This book hasn't picked up really either but I'm not sure that I'm far enough in to say it is a slow read.  It is a very easy read however and that I do like right now.  Reading shouldn't be a job.

I'm really glad that I blogged about this because I don't know if I would have held myself accountable or not.  Either way I'm doing it!  I'm happy about that so, yay!!

Have you read any good books lately?  Or what is your favorite book?

Let's try to form a new habit - UPDATE

by Edvard Munch

I guess if you would like to form a new habit you actually have to start to do it.

Last week when I decided that I needed to form a new habit I forgot to do one crucial thing, start.  Failure to launch.  Houston we have a problem. I did not jump off the deep end. I may have missed the mark.

The good news is it can only go up from here.  I at least recognized that I totally failed on starting a new habit.  I think the first step for me is finding a nice easy read.  If you are going to try something new it can be incredibly discouraging if you start with something too hard.  It's like going to school to be a mathematician and you start with Advanced Calculus instead of Intro to Calculus.

I'm not sure if I'm going to have a physical book or maybe just use my Kindle.  Books feel nice and are a constant reminder that you need to read.  They don't serve many purposes except to be pages that are read (or maybe a nice coaster) however that means I would 1) have to actually carry something else, and 2) I would only be able to read those pages.  So if the book sucked I wouldn't have anything else to read.  If I use my Kindle, when I download the books I can access them on my phone, computer and Kindle.  The cons of using my Kindle is that I can't read outside and I get super distracted.

My birthday is coming up maybe I can convince my husband to buy it :-)

Not only am I a brat about it because I feel like I need multiple points of access I also don't want to have an email/phone call/text message distract me.  If I read on my Kindle Fire, computer or phone I may get distracted by Instagram (I have a problem).  If I used the Paperwhite I wouldn't be distracted by these things.

Gaahhhh!!!  As I type this out I know that I'm just making excuses for not doing what I'm supposed to do... read!!

Ok, so let's get this habit thing going again.  Tonight, my task is to find a good book to read and figure out a way to make sure that I don't forget to read it.

Step 1: Find a book
Step 2: Read the damn thing
Step 3: Repeat until it becomes a habit!

Anyone know of any good books to start with?

Let's try to form a new habit

I have always been misguided by the "it takes 21 days to form a habit" mantra.  From what I have been reading lately it take more like 66 days to create a habit.

I think that I am going to try to form a new habit of reading again.  I used to love reading.  I could start and finish a book in a day.  If what I am reading is true then I need to give myself a little over two months to really form a habit.

Hopefully this is a change for the better.  Maybe I'll even try to keep track of it on this blog.  We'll see where that goes.  I can barely remember to write a 5 line paragraph in my 5 year journal

Let's form a new habit.  What is your new habit going to be?

Fail

I've failed already...  Not that I explicitly stated that I was going to try to try to participate in blogmas but I was thinking that it might be a good idea.  It takes approximately 21 days to form a habit I thought blogmas, 25 days of blogging, would be a great idea to get me in the habit of regularly blogging.  I saw it on instagram and thought it might be cool.

I would have tried to do vlogmas but let's be real I have a habit of uploading a video about once a month not even once a week, so once a day would a been a bit overwhelming for me.  Maybe that will be my New Year's resolution or maybe I'll do it for the 30 days leading up to my birthday this year. I'm babbling...

Oh well, I'll try to get back on track with it... maybe I'll try to do an extra post just to make up for yesterday's whoops.  I'm not very good at forming new habits.  I get bored really easy... oh, shiny thing!

Happy blogmas!
