!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spend a good portion of time online (more than I'm going to admit).  One thing that I have noticed is the excessive use of exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It almost feels like they've lost some of their pizzazz from excessive use.

excessive
[ik-ses-iv]

    adjective
1.
going beyond the usual, necessary, or proper limit or degree;characterized by excess

I know it is just a simple punctuation mark but I feel like it has been over used.  I mean we don't seem to give it any respect.  Now, I am by no means a punctuation expert but I do remember learning that you really shouldn't use more than one at a time.  I will be the first to say that I break this rule all the time but I try to only use it when I need to but I do use it when appropriate.

I get that people are trying to say, "look at me, look at me!" but geez, let's give the exclamation point a little love.

Let's try to form a new habit - UPDATE

by Edvard Munch

I guess if you would like to form a new habit you actually have to start to do it.

Last week when I decided that I needed to form a new habit I forgot to do one crucial thing, start.  Failure to launch.  Houston we have a problem. I did not jump off the deep end. I may have missed the mark.

The good news is it can only go up from here.  I at least recognized that I totally failed on starting a new habit.  I think the first step for me is finding a nice easy read.  If you are going to try something new it can be incredibly discouraging if you start with something too hard.  It's like going to school to be a mathematician and you start with Advanced Calculus instead of Intro to Calculus.

I'm not sure if I'm going to have a physical book or maybe just use my Kindle.  Books feel nice and are a constant reminder that you need to read.  They don't serve many purposes except to be pages that are read (or maybe a nice coaster) however that means I would 1) have to actually carry something else, and 2) I would only be able to read those pages.  So if the book sucked I wouldn't have anything else to read.  If I use my Kindle, when I download the books I can access them on my phone, computer and Kindle.  The cons of using my Kindle is that I can't read outside and I get super distracted.

My birthday is coming up maybe I can convince my husband to buy it :-)

Not only am I a brat about it because I feel like I need multiple points of access I also don't want to have an email/phone call/text message distract me.  If I read on my Kindle Fire, computer or phone I may get distracted by Instagram (I have a problem).  If I used the Paperwhite I wouldn't be distracted by these things.

Gaahhhh!!!  As I type this out I know that I'm just making excuses for not doing what I'm supposed to do... read!!

Ok, so let's get this habit thing going again.  Tonight, my task is to find a good book to read and figure out a way to make sure that I don't forget to read it.

Step 1: Find a book
Step 2: Read the damn thing
Step 3: Repeat until it becomes a habit!

Anyone know of any good books to start with?

I'm a glorified...

I'm an Instagram whore.  I mean, even my husband knows that if I'm on my phone 90% of the time I'm on Instagram.  I just can't help it.  I love pictures.  I'm so into pictures that I was a little sad that Instagram upgraded to have videos.  Or maybe just impatient... let's be real, I'm totally impatient and hate to wait for a video to load.

I know that they need to upgrade to compete with things like Vine but sometimes I hate change.  This is one change that I wasn't in love with but that's just me.

I get so distracted so easily... this whole top rant isn't even about this post.  All you needed to know was I was on IG and there was a post by a person that I follow that asked people what they did.  The person who posted the question also said what she did.  There were a surprising number of nurses.

What caught my eye were the number of people that started their response with, "I'm a glorified..."

This statement made me sad.

I don't care what you do don't just say you are, "a glorified (fill in the blank)"  Every person who said that in response to that post made me think, "but we need you to fill that role."  I mean the people who were saying that were accountants, nannies, secretaries and stay at home moms.  I mean there were more but those are the ones that I can think of right now.

SAD.

Please don't ever feel like you aren't as valuable as you are.  If you aren't a criminal doing horrible things to people then there is no reason to be ashamed of what you do.  Some times I feel like there so many boasting about what they do and how important it is that people who don't glorify their job feel like they are inadequate.

Be proud of what you do!  If you aren't proud of what you do, find something that does make you proud and happy.  I mean I don't always wake up happy about what I do but at the end of the day I am definitely no ashamed of what I do.

There are people who understand that without me or someone to fill my position that there would be a gaping hole in business.  I am an accountant.  It is not glamorous but it is important and I never feel ashamed to tell someone that I am a number cruncher.

I may be an accountant but that is just one component of my life.  Not only am I an accountant, I am a:
  • mom
  • wife
  • sister
  • daughter
  • granddaughter
  • aunt
  • niece
  • woman
  • college graduate
  • misunderstood comedian
  • amateur photographer
  • dog lover
  • happy cook
  • an important person
I'm sure I am more than those few things but the point is that I am not just those things.  I am all of those things and more.  There are people who are looking at me knowing that I need to fulfill those roles and expect that I will.

Please be proud of who you are.

If you aren't proud of who you are and what you do... CHANGE.

Change isn't always a fast thing but taking steps, no matter how small towards what you really want is all that matters.

Custom domain name fail

So a few weeks back I thought that I had set up my custom domain name (www.MikoFord.com).  Well, turns out, I'm not a genius.  Of course I thought that I had done it all and even thought I checked it to make sure it worked before I went around all my social media sites changing it.  Maybe it worked or maybe it didn't... maybe it was all a dream I had.

Either way, it wasn't working.  FAIL.

I just tried to connect the two again.  Per the instructions it could take up to 48 hours to connect the two.  I'm not sure if it is going to work or not this time but hopefully I got it right this time.

Keep your fingers crossed kids!

Oh Snap!!!  It's been less than 30 minutes (because I'm impatient and I checked)  and check out what's up and working!!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!!!  Yeah baby!!!!!  You can go ahead and imagine me dancing with arms flailing in the air like an uncoordinated baboon shaking my head in no orderly fashion.  Nice mental picture huh?  I didn't actually do that because I'm typing but that's what I imagined in my head.  Haha!

Let's try to form a new habit

I have always been misguided by the "it takes 21 days to form a habit" mantra.  From what I have been reading lately it take more like 66 days to create a habit.

I think that I am going to try to form a new habit of reading again.  I used to love reading.  I could start and finish a book in a day.  If what I am reading is true then I need to give myself a little over two months to really form a habit.

Hopefully this is a change for the better.  Maybe I'll even try to keep track of it on this blog.  We'll see where that goes.  I can barely remember to write a 5 line paragraph in my 5 year journal

Let's form a new habit.  What is your new habit going to be?
